Sanada Nobuyuki (1566 – November 12, 1658) was a renowned Japanese samurai from the Sengoku period, the son of the daimyō Sanada Masayuki, and the older brother of the famous Sanada Yukimura. In 1614, as tensions between the Tokugawa and Toyotomi clans escalated, Tokugawa Ieyasu ordered a siege on Osaka Castle. Nobuyuki’s brother, Yukimura, escaped from Kudoyama to join the Toyotomi forces, leading to a fierce battle with the Tokugawa. Tragically, Yukimura perished in the battle. After the Siege of Osaka, Tokugawa Ieyasu highly regarded Nobuyuki, and in 1622, he became the first lord of the Matsushiro clan, living to the age of 92. Nobuyuki’s wisdom, loyalty, and leadership helped solidify the Sanada clan’s legacy in Japanese history.
